The need

One of the leading manufacturers in the field of submarine cable production had, until recently, relied on external providers for the quality control of its products. Although this approach was functional, it presented significant limitations in terms of response speed, cost, and flexibility of the production process.

Recognizing the need for greater control, the company decided to invest in the development of an in-house, automated testing system — fully tailored to its specific production requirements and workflows.

The solution

KALAMARAKIS AUTOMATION designed and implemented the automation solution, offering expertise and specialized components from internationally recognized brands. The system is tasked with supervising and regulating critical parameters such as tensile strength, bending, and pressure in real time, which are decisive for the durability of the cables.

The main technologies and equipment used included:

Inverters for precise motor control
Sensors for continuous measurement of temperature and pressure
Omron PLCs as the core of the automation system
Rittal panels and Phoenix Contact components for reliable and safe installation
EMERSON’s Movicon NExT SCADA for monitoring and controlling operations through a user-friendly interface

KALAMARAKIS AUTOMATION was responsible for the complete programming and configuration of the system, ensuring full integration of all technologies and functions. The physical construction of the control panel was carried out by a selected partner under the coordination of our team.
